Exactrak are excited to announce their partnership with Highways England as part of a new £5 million integrated weather system. The system has been designed to enable better management of the nation’s main roads during times of severe weather and to support its aims of keeping the road network free flowing and safe. Exactrak will be providing the vehicle tracking and route navigation for drivers, to enable Highways England to monitor all treatment activity carried out by the winter maintenance fleet.
The 437 gritters in the Highways England winter maintenance fleet are now fitted with Exactrak systems, to enable the monitoring of all activity from the moment a vehicle leaves the depot. The data is then recorded in the Severe Weather Information System (SWIS) to ensure compliance and to inform future planning.
Training is currently being carried out nationwide with Highways England drivers to ensure familiarity with the system before the winter season begins.
